A three-axis turntable is a cutting-edge testing equipment that can perform high-precision and high dynamic motion around three mutually perpendicular axes (pitch axis, roll axis, yaw axis). The three-axis turntable is mainly composed of two parts: the mechanical platform and the measurement and control system.

Mechanical platform structure: commonly found in the U-O-O structure form of high-precision turntables (from outside to inside: U-shaped outer frame, O-shaped middle frame, O-shaped inner frame), which can achieve three degrees of rotational freedom and has a high stiffness platform structure.

Measurement and control system: responsible for receiving instructions, driving the turntable, and ensuring its precise movement.

The three-axis turntable is mainly used in the following fields:

Testing and calibration of inertial navigation systems (INS) and components: This is the most core and extensive application area of three-axis turntables.

Inertial component testing: used for calibration of gyroscopes and accelerometers, accurately calibrating their parameters through multi position and multi rate testing.

Inertial Navigation System Calibration and Testing: Used to calibrate and test the entire inertial navigation system, by detecting key parameters such as the perpendicularity of the three axes, the error angle between the turntable coordinate system and the geographic coordinate system, to ensure that it meets the requirements.

GNSS/INS integrated navigation system testing: The high-precision three-axis turntable can provide dynamic benchmarks for the GNSS/INS integrated navigation system for dynamic testing and evaluation of attitude performance.

Semi physical simulation:

The three-axis turntable is used in semi physical simulation to simulate the three-dimensional angular motion of a carrier, providing a realistic motion environment for equipment installed on the turntable, such as inertial navigation measurement units, antennas, etc.

For example, in semi physical simulation of aircraft, the turntable simulates the attitude changes of the aircraft, drives the inertial navigation equipment on it to move, forms a closed-loop test, and verifies the correctness of the inertial navigation equipment, simulation model, and control system.

Drones and Stable Platforms:

The three-axis inertial stabilization platform can effectively isolate the angular motion and vibration of the base, which is crucial in the imaging system of multi rotor unmanned aerial vehicles.

Special dynamic modeling and control strategy design are required for unmanned aerial vehicles due to their large rotational motion amplitude and frequent acceleration and deceleration.

Collaborative control and emerging applications:

Attitude collaborative control has become a research hotspot, for example, in unmanned collaborative combat systems such as unmanned aerial vehicle swarms and unmanned tank swarms, as well as in the fields of batch calibration of inertial devices, coordinated motion in motion, and robotic arm attitude collaboration.

In the field of spacecraft, three-axis turntables are also used for experimental verification of dynamic tracking of movable beam antenna pointing.
